Surprised you haven't seen Cinema Paradiso, ACT.

I've seen bits of it but I haven't seen it all the way through so it doesn't count. It's shameful really...I will get round to it soon

It's brilliant, always makes me cry. But then, I am a sentimental fool...

oh u still haven't seen lord of the ring! go see it now!

I have seen the first one and it was OK - I'd probably watch the others if they were given to me, but it's not really my cup of tea. I suppose it's partly due to the fact that I find it annoying when something becomes really popular- I always go out of my way to avoid it.

Not a "film noir" fan? Double Indemnity is worth seeing. The Third Man should not be missed. Strangers on a train is ok too. But you must see Metropolis if you can.

See my a to Zee of crucial films. I am only up to G!

Lists like this lose all credibility for me because they are so hollywood and mainstream.

Where is Il Postino? The Servant? The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini?

Ah yes, The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini, I've been wanting to see that in a while.
The reason why I chose IMDB is because it's probably the least mainstream and it's voted for by viewers. The list actually goes on to 250 and you'll find many foreign films in there although admittedly there are a few hollywood mainstream films I wouldn't have put in there. We've got The Third Man in the collection - my boyfriend keeps telling me I should see it, so I will soon.

The beautiful Alida Valli, who played Anna Schmidt in "The Third Man" died a week or two ago.

She was born in Istria and had a long career almost until her death.

I've just looked at her biography on IMDB and she's been in two other films I've seen, 'Suspiria' and 'Cassanda Crossing'. Great talent.

being a bit controversial, am I alone in thinking that La Dolce Vita was a bit boring? I made three attempts at watching it and fell asleep on each occasion.

Funny you should say that as I attempted to watch it a few weeks ago and found it a bit pretentious so opted for an afternon nap instead.

Act, i am also trying to watch the films on the list I haven't seen. I've had Once Upon A Time In The West sat in the living room for ages. Gave it a watch last night. Fantastic stuff.

I would add Hana-bi or Sonatine, both directed by the great 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano. They feature a lot of profound staring.

Also The Man With Two Brains.

Matt, I really wish you were the new James Bond, Daniel Craig is shite. I watched half of Hana B but never got round to watching the other half. I seem to make a habit of doing that- last night I was watching a film called 'Go' but I had to turn it off with only half an hour to go as I was tired. I do love Japanese films though especially Takashi Kitano.

TWM, if you like Once Upon a Time, you'll love Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy if you haven't already seen it

Go watch Lord of the Rings.

Cheers.

I can watch the Dollars trilogy again and again and again and again... And then once more again...
Also, Unforgiven - and the underrated and very odd Western, High Plains Drifter - in fact, prefer that one to The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Neo, I'm getting so warn down with people telling me to watch Lord of the Rings. I will definitely maybe watch it before I die I promise.

AKR, I see you're a Clint Eastwood fan. I haven't seen the two you mentioned. He is a very good director, one of my favourite films he's directed is Mystic River.

LOTR ain't all that A.C.T. It really isn't.

I see you are going to get humped, too. Good for you!

a.c.t. said...

Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks it *. I'm a bit nervous about getting humped, but should be good to hear an opinion.

I'm more of a Carry on Behind girl myself with Carry on at your convenience coming in at a close second..
